The Hurunui

A drive north of Christchurch through the beautiful Waipara valley will not leave you disappointed.There’s a special vibe about the Hurunui Region which sets it apart from anywhere else in the country. Indeed, it’s fair to say that life changes when you enter the district. 

The Hurunui has always been famed for its diverse agricultural land, roaming rivers and hectares of land as far as the eye can see.  We are proud to call it home. Here on our 105 ha farm in Hawarden, we currently farm cattle, sheep and chickens.

My wife Jonna and our two children, Lewis and Pippa, all work in the business from collecting eggs, to deliveries, and now the children want to help to select the best meat to sell to you! We are German and have lived in New Zealand for 18 years, so English is our second language just in case we get misunderstood on the phone!

Knowing where our food comes from and the effort that goes into producing it is paramount to us; the meat we sell is reared here on the farm or sourced from local Hurunui neighbouring farms. If we don’t have the animals ready on farm, we have a select few farms all local to us that we buy from as well.  We use the local Canterbury abattoirs who deliver the carcases back for us to our butchery facility at Woodend.
